Walter George Yeates III, 60, formerly of Columbia, S.C., passed away Monday, November 16, 2009, in Birmingham. Born August 25, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was a son of the late Walter George Yeates Jr. and Rebecca Taylor Yeates. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Class of 1970, Mr. Yeates had been self-employed in Birmingham for over 30 years.
Surviving are his brother, Douglas Taylor Yeates (Betty) of Anderson, S.C.; sister, Susan Wood of Columbia; sister-in-law, Candace G. Williams of Cayce, S.C.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Frederic H. Williams.
Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2009, in Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia. Family will receive friends following the service at the home of Candace Williams. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 500 Taylor St., Suite 101,
Columbia, SC 29201.
