1. I first met you when I was only 3 years old. You were a dear friend of my father, Pepin, when he played with Dezi, and you stayed in my life till I was 63. You came to my daughter Ana's baptism 30 years ago. You brought your 10 piece orchestra to for my company's party, and didn't charge me anything. You taught me many things, and for that I will always love you.

2. Dancing for Francisco was an incredible honor. He challenged me to just go out there and do it. I specifically remember him "asking"(more like told!) me to dance the Orisha, Obba, for a performance. I had never seen the dance before, and did not know what I was doing. But he just started playing and looking at me, smiling, and I just got out there and danced~it was like something took over me, and all of a sudden I was dancing Obba--correctly! He was magic and inspired all of us to dig deep and find our magic and just do it! I will miss him, but know his legacy will live on through all of us who have been touched by his talent and Divine Presence. Ibaye Baye Francisco! We love you!

   One of the first Tambors I attended was in L.A. in 1984. Francisco was playing at a Santero named "Santos" house. Also playing were Spiro, Virgilio and John Santos. They atarted playing around 1:00p.m. and by 5:30 or 6:00 both Virgilio and John had split their hands and were forced to use ample amounts of tape. Spiro had the look of a dear in the headlights and meanwhlie Ocha was Ocha was coming down all over the room and Fancisco just get getting stronger. His playing seemed to derive energy from the event that was taking place. I felt sorry for the other drummers because it was obvious that they were struggling to keep up but Francisco kept demanding that they play with more energy and not slack off. It was an incredible experience. Never again have I seen one person so completely dominate and energize any kind of performance religious or otherwise. It was also one of the first times that the set of Aña that Virgilio had brought back from Matanzas had played in public. Francisco taught us all by example what dedication and discipline really meant. He always gave his best and we owe him ours. Ibae'bae'Tonu Francisco.
