Anthony Joseph “Tony” Ferrara, age 58, of New Castle, DE, passed away Saturday morning April 16, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Darlene Reed Ferrara, with whom he shared 28 years of marriage. Tony was also a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many people.
He worked for Interstate United for 19 years as a Teamsters member before hiring into Chrysler’s Newark Assembly Plant (U.A.W. Local 1183) in 1989. He retired in 2008 after 19 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his father Joseph and his beloved son, Joseph Anthony.
In addition to his wife, Tony is survived by his mother, Josephine Ferrara; four children, Nina (Doug) Dietrich, Cathy Ferrara, Toni (Nick) Dorsey, Tiffany Cummerford, and the mother of his grandson, Teague, Vanessa Brown; six beautiful grandchildren, Dontae Ferrara, Doug Dietrich, Gianni Ramos, Teague Ferrara, Jorden and Riverlynn Dorsey; four brothers, Sam (Joanne), Joe (Diane), Mike (Diana), Steve (Kim); his sister Nina; and many other loving family members.
Tony was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends, vacationing, and spending time at his beach house and on his boat in Fenwick Island. Most importantly he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He left the lives of the ones he loved, but not their hearts.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 371 E. Main Street Middletown, DE 19709 from 5 to 7 pm. A Mass will follow at 7 pm. Interment will be private at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the Ferrara family suggests donations be made to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Dr., Christiana Corp, Ctr #302 ,Newark, DE 19713.
