Mary Josephine McCarty Van Beuren (Mary Jo) of Jupiter, FL passed away peacefully on March 28, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital after suffering a stroke last Saturday evening.
Mary Jo was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 12, 1940, and grew up in New Rochelle and Larchmont, NY. She attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School, The Ursuline School and graduated with an Economics Degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY.
Mary Jo was the daughter of Evelyn and Charles McCarty of Westchester County, NY and the mother of Peter Jr. (wife Lisa) of Sarasota FL; Gregory (wife Lysa) of Great Falls, VA; and Eric (wife Kristen) of Singer Island, FL. She was the beloved grandmother of Peter Jr.'s children Peter III, Jonathan and Andrew; and Gregory's children, Ellie and Brooke. She is survived by her loving sister Sheila Nixon (husband Kenneth) of Larchmont, NY.
Mary Jo married her high school boyfriend and soul mate, Peter V. Van Beuren, to whom she was married 46 years. Currently residing in Jonathan's Landing Golf Club in Jupiter, FL, they started their life together in Westchester, NY and eventually settled in Palm Beach Gardens, FL in 1977. Mary Jo and Peter have been spending their summer months at the Hound Ears Club in Blowing Rock, NC.
Mary Jo loved spending time on the golf course with her many golfing friends. She relished every round in the 80's and was twice named the Queen Bee club champion. She was proud of receiving her certificate as a Junior Maine Guide and having served as a past Gala Chair and Board Member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. She was known as an outstanding hostess, gourmet cook, and according to her grandchildren, a great listener and the world's best "gift-giver". Mary Jo will always be remembered for her unconditional devotion to her family and friends.
