LeRoy Eugene Watkins, age 83, was called to heaven Saturday, March 31, 2012. He was born in Enid, Oklahoma on October 15, 1928, the second child of the late John and Maude Watkins.
After serving in the Korean War, LeRoy received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force. Mr. Watkins later received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the Municipal University of Omaha.
LeRoy was employed at the VA Hospital before owning his own research laboratory performing virology and microbiology research on animals.
LeRoy was a devoted member of Salem Baptist Church where he participated in the church band. Additionally, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and 65 years member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The Invisible Chapter ritual will be held during the service.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Maisie; brother, Charles; former wife and mother of his children, Ruth; his children, LTC Carmen Alesia Bell, Bangkok, Thailand, William Howard Watkins (Antoinette), Brooklyn Park, MN, Sanford Eugene Watkins, MD (Alicia), Tyler, TX, Rosalind Zollicoffer, JD (Tony) of Atlanta, Georgia and Dwayne LeRoy Watkins, MD (Sandra, MD) from Atlanta, Georgia; grandsons, Cory Jerrel. Levering, Avery John Brooks Thomas, Qu'ran Malik Levering, Kaylin Lewis Zollicoffer, Dwayne Justin Watkins, Christian John Watkins, Austin Sterling Black, William Howard Watkins, Jr., Jordan Tyler Watkins. Jabari Q Brown and John Kirkland Watkins; granddaughters, Adele Marie Watkins, Asia L. Levering, Amaya L. Ward and Micah S. Watkins; two great-grandchildren; loving sister-in-laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and devoted friends.
No visistation, Services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 5th at Roeder Mortuaries, Inc. 4932 Ames Avenue Omaha, NE 68104, with Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery 7602 Military Avenue Omaha, NE 68114 immediately after the service.
