Michael K. Burns, 67 of Rocky River, formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; dear son of the late Richard and Lilian; beloved brother of Kerry B. Schwartz; former spouse of Brenda Burns. Passed away on May 17, 2012. Mr. Burns was a dedicated teacher and devoted drug counselor. He earned his bachelors degree from Capital University and his Masters from Ohio State University; and he continued to earn degrees and certificates for the rest of his life. Mike was never without a book, he had a passion for education and loved to learn. Mike sowed his love of education in the Euclid School system where he taught for many years; Spanish, Psychology and Social Studies just to name a few. His desire to help his fellow man was easily seen in the work he did as a Guidance Counselor and Career instructor but his best work was with drug and alcohol treatment. He was an Internationally Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor, a Mental Health Therapist and a Counselor at Glenbeigh Adolescent Hospital. After retirement from teaching Mike became a Case Manager at St. Vincent Charity Hospital and was a member of the Local and National Retired Teachers Association as well as a proud Son of the American Revolution. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
