I never knew Emiliano Mercado del Toro, but I bet he was a great guy. He must've been a really healthy person to make it to 115. Kudos, Godspeed, and cheers to you, Emiliano.

I didn't know Emiliano, but I would have loved to have met him. My own father recently passed away at almost 92 years-old. Emiliano was a man after my own heart--both of us were long time admirers of Iris Chacon, and both of us--like many Latin men--were enamored with her AMAZING derriƩre, which, according to Puerto Rican newspapers, Emiliano got to touch on his 114th birthday when Iris Chacon allegedly paid him a visit. I can only imagine how that came about--from what I read, Emiliano could hardly see at that point in time, so I imagine that he asked Ms. Chacon if he could use the brail method (!) of "seeing" the object of his lifelong desire. I imagine that Iris Chacon couldn't help but oblige the world's oldest man (who she said she felt like he was her grandfather) with such a simple request. Ahhh--age DOES have it's privileges! I would LOVE to see the actual photo that appeared in the Puerto Rican newspapers of Emiliano's smiling face at that moment! Rest in peace, Emiliano--you led a good life, perhaps we will meet in the next one. In the meanwhile, if you run into my beloved father, Dominick, please tell him that I will always love him.
