Dr. Kantrowitz performed a patent ductus operation on me when I was 14(1957). Because at that time they expected it to be a simple operation, he was going to allow another surgeon to do it. However, after some strong requests from my mother that he do the surgery, he agreed to do it. It was a simple operation that turned into an 8 hour nightmare in which I almost died on the table. If Dr. Kantrowitz had not been doing the surgery I would not be alive today. At the time my name was Sharon Skolnick. I wish I had written him long ago to thank him again, but someone told me he had died many years ago. I mourn his death and am grateful for his life, for me and for the many others whose lives he saved. I hope this reaches his widow. My love to him and conolences to her. He was a generous, giving man.
