Growing up I use to watch Walter on the news almost every night. He was an excellent journalist and respected man. Every night when getting off the bus, then the kids would always yell, "Say Hello to Walter for me." I would just smile and say "all right, I will." R.I.P. Walter we will always have possitive memories of you. Love Corinne (Cronkite) Ouellette

I grew up listening to your newscasts and was in awe of your calm when delivering the news that made the rest of us cry in horror and disbelief. You were an honorable man and there is no one, in your field today, who can hold a candle to you. You will be missed and I consider it a blessing to have been able to hear your special gift of delivering the news without bias. God bless you, Walter. America has lost a true pioneer.

Thank you Walter for holding my hand through the turbulances of the 60s. You helped me mourn JFK, RFK, MLK, the Kent State victims, Chicago in '68, and the dead soldiers from Vietnam. You helped me keep in in perspective.

Candle

The trust I had in Uncle Walt reporting the news. The emotion of the JFK assassination. The joy of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The deadpan disgust at the way the Vietnam war was going. But mostly the objectivity in reporting the days' news and the signature sign off: 'The way it is'. The class.

He has been missed for some time.

My condolences to the family.
