As we approach the two year anniversary of Ms. Mason's death, I am in awe and grateful for the gift that she left ... her book, Breath (subtitled, A Lifetime In The Rhythm of An Iron Lung). What a gift her life story is to us all ... even those of us who met her only through her book. Her life was a testament to a strong spirit, a loving family (especially her mother), and a small, tightknit community. I believe the good Lord greatly extended her life because she had such a zeal to live and learn, and because she had such a great love for people. Her life could not have been easy, but it was worth the living because she kept choosing to LIVE! This lady had more life, love and friendship than many of us will ever experience. Oh, what a moment that must have been when that machine pressed its last breath into her body and she exhaled in Glory! Free at last! Rest in peace ... you are not forgotten.

We visited Martha with my cousin Peggy Jean Rhyne in April, 2008. We brought her strawberries and talked about sports, politics and family. Her personality lit up the house. We will never forget her!!
