I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Col. Harold E. Fischer Jr. along with Andy MacKenzie of the Royal Canadian Air Force the year they came to Oshkosh, WI to speak at the AirVenture. I was asked along to be a special guest of theirs while they spoke to the crowds that came to hear their stories of being taken captive by Chinese military personnel and imprisoned. It is a true lost to the world that both of these man have left us, but they leave behind great memories and a free county because they were willing to service.

Thank you Hal and Andy - we love and miss you.

Col. Harold E. Fischer, Jr. was my first cousin. We grew up together. I often stayed with his family. I worked for his Dad several summers on the farm. He and I shared many times together. We often played war. He would build fantastic model airplanes, we would attach M-80 firecrackers to them and he would climb the windmill, light the firecrackers and sail the aircraft off the windmill. We enjoyed the show. He was always fascinated by aircraft and learned to fly as soon as he was "old enough."
