Jerry Keith Kubena

Jerry Keith Kubena, a Stockton native, was born on August 6, 1947 and died peacefully in Stockton, CA on June 1, 2009. He was predeceased by his proud parents, Myrtle “Fon” Kubena and Jerry Kubena. He is survived by his loving children: Keith Kubena and Karie Nelson (Carin,) and by his beloved siblings: Mary Taylor (Marc,) Tony Kubena and Bob Kubena. Family was very important to Jerry and he was thrilled to be “Papa” to his four adorable grandchildren: Dalin, Adia, Jessie and Haley Nelson. He was often found at Tiger’s Yogurt buying them treats and was heard to say on numerous occasions that “Papa” was the best word ever invented.
Jerry served in the Air Force between 1965 and 1969. He earned the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in Viet Nam in 1968. After his valued service to the U. S. Armed Forces he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. He put that degree to work as a Deputy in the San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office from 1970-1978 and from 1978-1988 with the Manteca Police Department where he retired as a Lieutenant. Jerry helped develop Manteca’s SWAT Unit and worked with the top-rated dog in the Western United States when working as a K-9 Officer. Nevertheless, after retirement Jerry still felt the need for action and opened his own business as a private investigator.
Jerry had a variety of interests and social commitments. He was a member of the Modesto HOGs-Harley Davidson Chapter and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Manteca. He was an avid fisherman. He was also passionate about hunting, golfing, boating, flying his own plane and riding motorcycles (Harleys, of course!) Jerry was a Christian who found great solace in the Lord’s Prayer.
Family and friends are welcome to share reminiscences and pay respects from 3:00-4:30 at DeYoung Shoreline Memorial Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Drive, Stockton, CA 95219, (209) 472-0335. A Memorial Service honoring Jerry Keith Kubena will begin immediately following at 4:30. Floral contributions or live plants will be greatly appreciated and are to be sent straight to the Chapel.
