Hey man, I'm gonna miss you so much. You always knew how to make me laugh and I'm sure your sense of humor will make you many friends in Heaven. I'm sorry you had to leave us so early but I know you are in a better place. I'm so glad I got to see you one last time this summer. You finally got your wings Derrick. I love you man. And I am praying for your family.

Dear Britt Family,

Although I did not have the priviledge of knowing Derrick, I know he was a good friend to my nephew Brian Cleary. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time of loss. God bless you!

My eyes filled up with tears as I heard the news
It never occurred to me, how much I could lose
I find myself wishing that it wasn't real
Every time I think about it, pain is all I can feel
Tears fall from my eyes, I can barely see
But my heart tells me that he'll always be with me
I'm glad he feels no pain now-he lives in a perfect land.

Dear Friends,

we are extremely saddened by the loss of such a wonderful young man, and stand with you in this very sad time. As I look out of my window, the sky is crying with me, in this gray, gloomy day. I know that Derrick's memory will stay with us, even with those of us who knew him mostly through you, rather than directly and personally, as a shining example of courage, love, and faith. All I can think about

Derrick is the most courageous man I have ever known. He was able to be, in part, because of the wonderful love and support of his parents. We will all miss him at Cardinal Newman.

Although I did not know your son personally I know of all the love that was shown no finer parents than you both were. Please accept our most humblest condolences for your loss. May God be with your family during this time. My love always sincerely
Ed Matthews.
