Captain Katz was such a great friend to my mother and he was instrumental in charting my future. He remained close over many decades and anyone who ever had the pleasure to meet him or become his friend was a lifelong friend. And his civic involvement and love for New Orleans are incomparable. He surely lived life.

On behalf of the entire membership of the USS Bennington Association, please accept our condolences on the loss of your loved one.

We shall remember Captain Joe at our annual wreath laying ceremony in Bennington, Vt. at the Ships Bell Memorial. The bell will toll in his memory....

And as Captain Katz now stands the Eternal Watch, please know that as long as his memory remains in just one of us, he'll never be forgotten.........
