When I was a student at Franklin Pierce Law Center, I shared an apartment with a young woman who worked in an office at the Law Center. She disappeared one day, taking my rent money with her. I was in a bit of a bind, having to pay the entire rent myself. Dr. Rines must have heard about the situation because she never showed up for work. He asked to speak with me. He pulled out his personal check book and wrote me a check for my rent. It was over a thousand dollars! "Call it a loan" he said "and pay me back when you can, no rush." I was flabbergasted, to say the least. I made a monthly payment to Dr. Rines. Just before graduation I received a handwritten note from Dr. Rines "Consider the loan paid in full" he wrote, which of course it was not. "Congratulations on your graduation." I suspect this is just one of his many random acts of kindness.
