I served as one of Lewis NCO's at Fort Lewis prior to moving back to Louisiana and did many of training preparing him and the other young soldiers in A Troop to head overseas. I miss hearing his voice and listening to him sing his show tunes while in the Stryker to make us laugh.

Joey was a one of a kind friend. I could not have imagined my childhood without him. It makes me incredibly proud to have known such a great person.

To the Lewis family - may the gratitude of America help a little to comfort your hearts at the loss of such a fine young man who is gone much too young. I hope that in the days ahead the memories of Joseph will bring you some peace of mind. Based on the recent loss of my parents, I know that it may be a little while before you can appreciate all those special memories, but that time will come.

I would like to offer my deep sympathy to the Lewis family on the loss of a man who they knew, variously, as a son, brother, uncle, husband and father, and whom the rest of us have come to know as a true hero.

May God bless and comfort you in this time of loss.

Joey, I miss you so much! You were the greatest little brother a girl could ever have. I will never forget you or the memories we shared. Who's going to tease me or embarrass me in public now? No one could ever take your place in my heart. Or my childrens' hearts. You were an awesome uncle. They will forever miss you. I only wish you could have met my baby that's due in March. I've decided to name him

Ann and I have been there for the family since this all began for the Lewis family. We are sorry for their loss and know the feeling and emptiness that they are experiencing at this time. We didnt know Joseph but know that he was a Soldier, a Patriot and a young man with the conviction to serve his country and to honor its flag. Thank you Joseph !! David McNabb
