Nicholas Silverio 87– Retired president and owner of Aero Facilities Inc., Miami Int’l Airport. A Miami Resident for 30 years and a resident of Central Florida for many years, passed away on February 5, 2010 at South Lake Hospital in Clermont, FL. He served in WW II and Korea and left the Air Force as a Captain. He came to Miami in 1953 from Wright Patterson A.F.B., Ohio where he served as a procurement officer, and pilot flying P-51, B-25, C-47, C-45, T-6 aircraft. He was also qualified as an aircraft maintenance officer and F.A.A. licensed aircraft & power plant mechanic.
At Aerodex 20 years, he was Vice President Contract Administration Quality Control, Sales, Data Processing, and Chief Flight Operations Piloting the Company Jet Commander and Lockheed Lodestar. He was also Vice President at Aircraft Plating, Inc. and Aircraft Casting, Inc.
He left Aerodex in March 1972 and managed Aero Facilities on Miami Int’l. He became owner, President and General Manager, and then sold to Page Avjet in 1980 staying on as consultant through 1984. He learned to fly in WW II and continued to fly until his death. F.A.A. pilot ratings held were: Airline Transport Pilot, Flight Instructor, Single and Multi-Engine Land & Sea, Commercial Glider Pilot. In 1986, he received the “Man Of The Year” award from Silver Wings, a national pilot organization. He was on the Editorial Advisory Board of Professional Pilot Magazine and Aviation Advisory Board of Citrus County for a number of years. Nick was a member of Quiet Birdman and numerous aviation professions organizations and Past President of Minifarms Property Owners Association of Citrus County. He was also a past member of the Board of Directors of Lake Crescent Hills Homeowner Association. He was on the Board of Directors of Habitat For Humanity.
Survivors include: Wife, Marjorie Silverio, Daughter, Martha Booth, (David), Fayetteville N.C., Sons, Nicholas E. Silverio (Gloria) and Mark V. Silverio (Sandra) of Miami Lakes, FL, Son, Christopher preceded him in death in June of 1993. Step-children, James D. Murray (Donna), Collierville, TN, Charles W. Murray, Orlando, FL, David M. Murray, (Denise) Sanford, FL, Patricia Johnson (Gary), Lake Mary, FL, Mary Ann Abbott (Chris), Clermont, FL. and ten grandchildren. Brian, Terri, Christy, Jake, Chad, Jillian, Rachel, Kimberly, Summerlyn, Kennedy, Alexandria and one great-grandchild, Lincoln.
Visitation and “The Celebration of Life” service will be at The Church At South Lake. 332 Mohawk Road, Clermont, FL 34711 on February 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
