Year 1968-Base Camp of 3rd Brigade, 4th Division(Army)at Kontum in Central Highlands, Vietnam shortly after TET. A visitor from the States walking past us to the Operations Center. Must be important, very tall with an entourage of officers.
Hey, that looks like Fess Parker. Can't be. They wouldn't let him come out here. But it was and he was stopping and talking to soldiers while the officers tried to move him along quickly and get him back on whatever he flew in on. He must have insisted on the visit, placing himself in great danger, because we were taking hundreds of mortar and rocket rounds every night as well as ground probes.
Talk about a morale booster. This TV hero become real life hero was talked about for months after that. So now the Almighty has him back. Maybe I'll meet him one day.

In the middle of 1980's, Mr. Parker was a patient at Cottage Hospital. I worked as an EKG tech and performed his exam before his stay. We became fast friends. He entrusted me to take his personals from the test room to his room upstairs. Once moved, he asked me to get him some dinner that was "decent" and gave me money to go and do so. When I came back, he insisted we share the meal together and we really had a wonderful visit. I told him how I grew up loving him on my TV as a kid and that both of my sons had Davey Crockett hats as we lived on an avocado ranch in the foothills of SB. We spent a good two plus hours just laughing and getting to know one another and I was never more flattered in my life to have this instant connection and trust with a someone, let alone a star! He invited me to his ranch but I never took him seriously. He spoke about his tennis playing and how much he loved it. I do not live in SB now, but will always treasure that time. What a loss. Forever, Davy C!

I grew up watching the Daniel Boone tv show.
I am so glad that I was able to purchase the DVD set(s) of the tv series and have enjoyed watching them over and over again.
I was very saddened to hear of Mr. Parker's sudden passing. My heart goes out to his wife and children...
They obviously were very much in love...and that is something to envy...especially with the history of so many movie stars marriages that have failed over the years.
I am also a widow...I lost my husband suddenly after only 17 years of marriage back in 1994. I know what Mrs. Parker is going thru right now and my prayers are with her that God will give her the peace and comfort that she deserves at such a sad time in her life.

There was not a day that went by that I did not watch Daniel Boone. Seeing this picture of Fess Parker brings back memories of my childhood and Memphis. The vision of sitting in my front room waiting for Daniel Boone to emerge from the thicket of trees was the best. Howdy Doody and Daniel Boone puts me back in the front room with mom and dad, both who are not with us anymore excpet in Spirit. Should have kept that Dl Boone hat...but I got my memory! God bless you, Fess Parker!
