Memories & Candles
My condolences to Pit-Mann's family.
As I learned the news last night, I realized that I lost an outstanding high school classmate. I remember the last time we met was in Taiwan some forty years ago.................
I am sure Pit-Mann will not be forgotten for what he has contributed in his career...

I just heard the news of Pitt Mann-Wong's passing from the Notre Dame magazine, and I am so sad. He was my calculus professor back in 1988. We all loved his class so much, and I remember how kind he was and how dedicated and interested he was in his students. We all loved him. I went on to become a math major and have been teaching math for almost 20 years. His love of math surely inspired mine. I am so very sorry for your tremendous loss and will keep his family close in prayer.

Please accept my condolences at this late stage as I have not got to know the news until just the last few days, and still in a state of shock that it happened to Pit-Mann so soon. I got to know Pit-Mann only in the last few years via a mathematical contact. He took a special interest of my latest results then and used them in higher dimensional complex spaces setting. As others have remarked that Pit-Mann always encouraged younger

Complex Finsler Geometry, Geometry of Intrinsic Matrics, Complex Deicke and Brickell Theorem, the Monge-Ampere Equation, the Nevanlinna Theory,

Pit-Mann was a wonderful professor and a friend who will be greatly missed. Both inside and outside of the classroom, Pit-Mann was a beacon of kindness and an inspiration to all who got to know him personally. I will always remember his kindness, his humor and the warmth he brought to every conversation. I will always remember the WW2 helmet he used to wear when passing out graded exams and his oversized backpack that he brought to class every day.

I remember the good time our two family have shared together in the
summer of 1998 at Paris, France. I last saw Pit-Mann at Taiwan last
summer- - we have exchanged jokes and warm greetings as usual.

I was so sad to hear the shocking news of the passing-away of Pit-Mann. I first got to know Pit-Mann in 1995 at MSRI, Berkeley. At the time, I was just one year out of my Ph D. Pit-Mann treated me with sincere friendship and told me many things from which I have been benefited greatly in the late development of my career. Since then, we met from time to time at different ocassions and I had more opportunity to learn from him. Though Pit-Mann left us now, I will aways remember his friendship and his smiling face.

Dear Wong Family,
I just finished my freshman year at Notre Dame this May. Professor Wong was my Calculus professor and the second Notre Dame Professor I ever met. While I may be a political science and Japanese major, I enjoyed his class tremendously. After our completing our first test, he came into class wearing an old army helmet, protecting himself from "all the tomatoes" we would throw at him. He was funny, brilliant, helpful, caring, and an amazing teacher. He was and is amazing and I will always remember him for possessing a lot of spunk.

I lost a dear friend, a teacher, a collegue.
Pit-Mann's generosity and kindness
touched me in many ways.
Having the fortune of learning
from him, collaborate with him
and sharing so much was one of the
great treasures of my life.
Cecilia and I embrace Priscilla, Mei and Ping-Yu
and wish we could be there in such a sad moment.

Pitmann's death is a great loss for Mathematics and for me personally.
He was a brilliant researcher who always worked on important problems and always tried to get to the heart of his subject. This and his infectious enthusiasm, made him a joy to work with. He was also a thoughtful, generous friend. Alison and I will always think fondly of the good times we shared with Pit and Priscilla.

Pit-Mann’s very sudden departure from us in his prime is such a great loss to the theory of value distribution, the field of mathematical research which he has so loved and has so devoted his professional life to. His mathematical contributions, the ever joyful charming smile on his face as well as his warmth, his loving kindness, his selfless caring will always be remembered by his students and colleagues throughout the world and by everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
