Dear Mike,

I'm saddened to hear of your mother's passing. Isabel and I knew her for many years, ever since she and your father came from Cuba. I have fond memories stopping by your house on Harrison Street and watching your mom listen patiently while your father talked about his dream of owning a Cadillac one day. Now they are sharing his longed-for Cadillac in Heaven.

I remember as a child going to church at St. Paul's and then joining your parents, Ofelia, my Abuela and sometimes you at McDonalds. That was a lovely way to spend my childhood and I am so glad your mom and dad were apart of my life. I am sorry for your loss. Your mom has had a special place in my heart since I was a child and I am sorry that she is gone.

I wanted to share that in my family recipe book I have at least one recipe from your mom, she sent it to my mom years ago. I will always remember her visit to NJ, when my mom was thrilled to get a wooden spoon-type gadget as a gift from her that turned out to be for pushing and pulling the hot
