Dear Family VanderMolen,
Our fondest memories of the Cherokee neighborhood in Grandville revolve around your family. We were so busy with our work, raising the children and all of the other activities; but we still had time to be neighbors.

Papa and I years ago.

I have many memories with Papa. He taught me how to play pool. He always let me sit on his lap to steer the boat at the cottage in Cadillac. I will remember him always in his "old blues" telling stories about elaborate pranks he had done as a teenager, and also skipping out of active duty one day to spend the day with Marnie and getting caught. Best Dad Ever!!! My Dad was always there for me, no matter what. It started with "Walkie Donnie" when I was an infant. I would yell from my crib "Walkie Donnie" and my Dad would come running to walk me around and around and around. According to my Mom and Brother they claim this went on for many times some evenings and many years, "until your feet reached his knees"!

We had a great close bond that remained throughout his life.
