"Pet Canvas"
When we adopted you into our life our pet canvas was blank. With every lick of your tongue a portion of the canvas was cleared revealing part of a picture underneath. At first I thought it was strange. Instead of painting new memories you seemed to be unveiling a picture already there. But what was it of? I would understand later. As each wonderful year passed, our love for one another grew deeper. Every time we'd play,

To my family that lost thier pup! R.I.P. Dilbert!
"Beyond the Rainbow"
As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wonderous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful--lush and green

Dilbert was such a funny guy. He wasn't trying to be funny- he was just trying to find the cat that was right next to him, or the rabbit, or whatever.
I think when he howled he was reliving his hunting days, but most likely he never realized they'd ended a long time ago. He was a happy guy.
I'll miss him too.
