Memories & Candles
Dear Lynne and family,
I remember Irene (Mrs. Rollston back in the days) with great affection. This photo is just as I picture her. She was a whirlwind of activity in the days when women were required to "keep a nice house" and see to the children. Irene did that and so much more. The door to her home was literally open. Her daughter, Lynne, and I were best friends and we roamed the neighborhood (as kids in those days did)

Irene Rollston was known to me and all my cousins as Nana, she was my grandmother but again........... she was Nana.
I remember when I was a little boy following her around the kitchen on holiday visits and she would always have time for me. Figure that out with all the preparation going on to get the family dinner ready for at least 20 people..... but she had the time. She would always have olives out as a side dish

I first met Irene in 1996 when I was running for an open judicial seat in our county. We were introduced by my campaign manager, who worked with her son Ken, a respected local attorney. From our first meeting, I found Irene to be keenly intelligent, fiercely loyal and a determined advocate for women in our community. Despite her tiny stature, she was an energetic and commanding presence.
When I heard that she wanted to support my candidacy, I initially presumed
