Spece

Darlene F. Spece, 81, of Lancaster, PA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Abner and Florence Bechtold. She was married to the late Kenneth Kilgus who died in 1968 and the late William Spece who died in 1999. Darlene is survived by a daughter, Jody M. (Randy) Rosser, Lancaster; a stepson, Larry (Georgia) Spece, Millville, DE; a stepdaughter, Judy (Skip) Duke, Manheim Twp.; 3 step grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Raymond) Snyder, Lancaster; and a brother, Harold (Mildred) Bechtold, Lititz. Darlene was preceded by a brother, Paul Bechtold; 2 sisters, Millie Stover and Janet Suydam.

Darlene was a retiree of the Lancaster Newspapers, where she worked for over 20 years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Darlene enjoyed dancing, bowling, knitting and spending time with her friends. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Anne's Retirement Community for all they did for Darlene.

Life Celebration Services will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 500 Pearl St., Lancaster, PA 17603 on Tuesday, Nov. 29th at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Redeemer Lutheran Church. My thoughts are with Darlene's family during this difficult time. My mother was a very good friend of hers when they were much younger and lived on Fremont St in Lanc. Lillian and Darlene worked at the Lanc Newspaper together also. Although I didn't stay in contact with her daughter Jody, I always had fond memories of the fun times we shared when we were kids growing up. May you have blessed memories to comfort you at this time.

I'll never forget the old mustang Darlene drove when I was younger. I loved that car. And she had a bobble head doggy on the back window. She would pick my mom up for work when they worked the night shift at the Lanc Newspaper. And when she and Jody lived on Fremont St. they lived right next to a small passage off of an alley that we used to sled down when it snowed. I loved her house-it was always so quiet and peaceful. She comforted my mom when she had cancer and was always a good friend.
