Joyce Haskelene Alpers

The daughter of Haskell and Norma Price, Haskelene was born on December 28, 1935 in a converted boxcar in CeeVee, Texas. Haskelene's family moved often until at the age of 8 they settled in Oakdale, CA. A 1954 graduate of Oakdale High, Haskelene moved to Arizona for a brief stint before returning to Oakdale where she lived the remainder of her life. Haskelene was a strong Oakdale community supporter, serving on the city Planning Commission, volunteering at Community Sharing and in her church and as an employee of Bank of America for 32 years. She was foremost a wonderful mother and grandmother. Haskelene enjoyed traveling; she especially cherished her adventures in Hawaii, Ireland, Fiji and Hong Kong. But her greatest love was the coastal regions of Oregon and California, particularly the lighthouses of those regions. A yearly trip to the Monterey Coast with her daughter and grandchildren was always an annual highlight. Haskelene is survived by her brother, Ron Price of Oakdale, her two children; Kerry Taylor of Oakdale, CA and Kelly Bussard of Albany, OR as well as three grandchildren; William Bussard, Kiley Bussard and MacKenzie Taylor. She was preceded in death by her father Haskell, mother Norma, sister Susan and cherished companion Sherlock. A memorial service will be held at River Oak Grace Community Church on Saturday March 10th at 3pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org. Fisher Funeral Home in Albany, OR is handling arrangements.
