Walter J. Deininger, Sr., age 73, of Taylor, passed away Saturday evening at home. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Drusbosky Deininger, on January 23, 2008. Born in Scranton on May 10, 1938, son of the late John and Susan Wincovitch Deininger, Walter was a graduate of the former Taylor High School, Class of 1956, and a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard. Prior to his retirement, he served for over 25 years as field auditor for the Department of Revenue. A longtime member of the former St. John the Baptist Church in Taylor, he was a current member of Divine Mercy Parish. A member of both the Riverside Booster and R&L civic clubs, he also enjoyed collecting coins. An avid sports fan, his favorite team was the Boston Red Sox. A family man who adored his four grandchildren, his legendary 4th of July house parties will forever be remembered. He is survived by two children, his daughter, Suzi Taylor and husband William of Taylor, and Walter Deininger, Jr., and wife Shana of Lansdale; and four grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Deininger and Emily and Will Taylor. A brother, John, and a sister, Ruth James, also preceded him in death. His family would like to acknowledge and thank Walter's devoted caregivers, Jackie Powell and Shannon Cosminski; his nephew and handy man, John Fortuna; Hospice of the Sacred Heart; and all the doctors, nurses and staff who had done their best to make Walter comfortable during his illness. Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Wednesday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, Pastor. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walter's name to the American Red Cross, 545 Jefferson Avenue, Scranton, 18505.
