Memories & Candles
I am sorry to hear about your father. My father was Henry Ballantyne. My mother and son went to the Ballantyne Family Reunion and came back with wonderful memories of your father. Our families have not been in touch for many years, however, if you are ever in Portland, please contact me. My deepest sympathy. Mary Ballantyne Reis

My sincere condolences for the loss of your dear father. John was a patient of my father's and then, I had the extreme pleasure of taking on that role after my father retired. He was a good friend of our family for many years and He was such a kind and generous man.
He loved golfing and mentored my oldest son in the sport. I appreciated it very much, since I didn't golf. He was very generous with his time, and always had a smile to share.
He will be missed.

To John's love ones:
I'm Very sorry for your great loss.
I worked with John between 1965-69 on several construction and reconstruction projects on the Monongahela National Forest, including two visitor centers and the Highland Scenic Highway. He loved that country and the people. John to this day has been a very positive inspiration in my life. I have kept in touch over the years. I remember him the most for his humility, kindness, respect for others and his sense of humor.

I had the pleasure of meeting John during his cardiac rehab years ago. He was such a joy and always had a great attitude. He always asked to see pictures of my family and we shared many stories. He was a fine man and I feel privileged to have known him. What a spirit he had for life! My prayers to your family - Lisa Miller

I am very sorry to hear of John’s death. I considered John to be one of my best friends.
I first met John in 1965 when I transferred to the Monongahela National Forest. After leaving the forest in 1969 I still saw him about every year when I played golf with him or visited with him in Elkins.
John was not only one of the nicest people I ever knew, but was one of the funniest. Whenever the Forest

John and I were cardiac rehabilitation classmates. We spent many hours in rehab talking about who knows what. He was one of the most selfless and decent persons I've had the pleasure to know. Kay also got to know him at the rehab. He was our friend and we will miss him. And I would still like to know more about his naval service. He and his generation might just be the best this country has known.
