Harriet "Missy" Berler passed away peacefully on April 21, 2012 at the age of 56. Missy was born on October 11, 1955 in San Antonio to Richard M. and Martha P. Landsman. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1973 and attended The University of Arizona and University of New Mexico, where she studied art and archeology. Upon returning to San Antonio, she reconnected with longtime classmate Jeffrey H. Berler. On their first date, Missy and Jeff attended a Spurs game with her parents. The rest was history. The couple was married at Temple Beth-El in 1980. In February, they celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary. Missy was an active member of her community, volunteering her time and energy over the years to many arts organizations, including the Southwest School of Art, the San Antonio Public Library Foundation, the McNay Museum of Art, and the San Antonio Museum of Art. She was admired for her tenacity and impeccable taste. An avid athlete, Missy took great pleasure in her daily workouts; her energy and vivacity shone through in all her relationships. A devoted mother of three, Missy leaves behind a vast network of family and friends who so generously cared for her in her final weeks. She was preceded in death by her father Richard M. Landsman. Missy is survived by her husband Jeffrey H. Berler; her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jonathan Brand; her daughter, Caroline Marie Berler; her son, Matthew Adam Berler; her mother, Martha Polan Landsman; her brother, Broh Landsman, and sister-in-law, Tracy; her sister, Betsy Sue; her parents-in-law, Dr. James M. and Arlene Berler; her brothers-in-law, Michael Berler and Stephen Berler; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Berler Polunsky and Shannon O'Kelley; her nieces and nephews, Lauren and Benji, Andrew, Scott, Amanda, Grace, Sam B., Ben, Peter, Sam L., Charlie, Blair, and Martha Betsy; her cousins, Josh and Judy, Susana and Chad, Hilary, Mark, Bobby and Alise, Leslie and David, and Matt. Service A funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00 AM at Temple Beth-El (211 Belknap Place, San Antonio, Texas), with a graveside service to follow at Beth-El Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: The Landsman Family Relief Fund Temple Beth-El 211 Belknap Place

I met Missy cheering on the sidelines of a girl's soccer game. She was kind, smart, insightful and irreverent. My family and I were new to Texas and I marveled at her ability to juggle everything and everybody. She laughed when she was losing her pigment due to vitiligo as she turned from exotic to even more exotic. I now have vitiligo and will think of her often. She is, was and always will be a fantastic mother who loved her children ferociously.
