Betty E. Vandermer, 91, of Speers Hill, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 in Havencrest Nursing Center. A daughter of the late George H. and Christina Cowell Soles, she was born in N. Belle Vernon on October 9, 1920. A lifelong resident of Speers and Charleroi, Betty was a member of the Speers United Methodist Church, the former W.S.C.S. of the church, served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, sang in the choir, and had been the church's financial secretary for over 30 years. An avid western style square dancer, she and her late husband wintered in Florida for many years and she always looked forward to teaching cribbage while in Florida. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jack D. and Barbara Vandermer of Ellicott City, MD, Kenneth B. and Janet Vandermer of Irwin and Robert P. and Barbara Vandermer of Rostraver Twp., two sisters and one brother-in-law, Dolores and Robert Watkins of Souderton and Scharma Schaeffer of Belle Vernon, one brother and sister-in-law, George H. and Claire Soles of Speers Hill, five grandchildren, John Vandermer and his wife Noel, of Baltimore, MD, Kimberly Bloodworth and her husband Courtenay, of Birmingham, AL, Kevin Vandermer and his wife Amy, of Irwin, Jill Palmer of Chesterton, IN and Daniel Vandermer of North Hills, and seven great-grandchildren, Roy and Alexis Vandermer, Adele Bloodworth, Mason Vandermer and Abigail, Sophia and Nathanael Palmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred E. Vandermer on September 3, 2007. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M.
