Kimberly Shakir Bell was born on January 13, 1976 to the parents of Clarence Luke Bell Jr. and Beverly Bell. Kim was christened at Warren United Methodist Church. She was a quiet and gentle child, which the Lord blessed with artistic talents. We will miss her quirky, offbeat humor, playful pranks, and goofy cards. Anyone who knew Kimberly well knew that she was "no frills, no drama," loved animals, the mountains, sand ,water, snow and music. She could play the piano, cello, and flute with proficiency. She added the guitar to her musical repertoire in her later years. She owned an electric guitar, also. She loved soccer and was known for her famous "boomer kicks."
Kim loved to travel. She travelled to Europe twice during her short, young life. She took the Alaskan cruise twice and travelled to Jamaica and Puerto Rico. She enjoyed playing black jack in Las Vegas. She loved photography, especially developing black and white subjects/content. Her preferred musical genre was rock. Dave Mathews was her favorite band, as well as U2/Bono. She attended one of her first concerts at the new billion-dollar Cowboys Stadium to see Bono. Kim was a strong animal activist, also. She was a P.E.T.A. activist before participation was the cool thing to do. Her idea of a fun vacation was travelling to Wyoming to an animal farm. She and her best friend, Jennifer Masak, travelled to the farm where the animals had been used in testing procedures, i.e. cosmetics, etc. They got the opportunity to feed the animals and care for them for a week. She had the best time and was very happy doing what she liked best: caring for animals. Needless to say, she was a vegetarian and environmentalist. Her first pet was named Snowy, a snow white Blue Point Persian. Kim was 11 years old when she purchased Snowy. Snowy died at the age of 20. It took her two years to find another cat. When it was time, she went to an animal shelter to find a beautiful Maine Coon cat, which she named Laine. Kim received an email of Laine from her mom, Beverly, on Sunday morning showing Laine's favorite position: curled up sleeping, one day before her passing.
Kim attended and graduated from the White Rock Day School, a private pre-school through sixth grade academy. She was fascinated about the prospects of swimming everyday and going horseback riding. The school had a stable of horses. She later attended Merriman Park Elementary in the Lake Highlands area and then Lake Highlands Junior High.
Kimberly attended Lake Highlands High School, graduating in 1994. She was a member of the renowned Lake Highlands "Red Team" drill team, where she was an officer. She graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in 2000 with a BA in Mass Communications. At Tech, she had her own radio spot as "Ma Bell" upon graduation from Tech. She worked for an advertising company briefly before landing a job at Fox 4 News, where she worked for nine years. She then moved to Denver, Colorado to pursue other interests. She was welcomed to Denver by her college roommate from Tech, Jennifer Masak, and her husband, Cole Cutter.
At age 19, while at Tech, Kim had a heart pace maker implanted. However, two weeks after the procedure, she was rollerblading across campus again. She died of natural causes in Denver on May 21, 2012. She leaves behind a host of relative and friends; her parents, Clarence and Beverly Bell; and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mable Hayden, who turned 91 years old on May 4. Kim was planning to surprise her Granny in two weeks with a visit on June 24.
