I saw John briefly at our 50th college reunion, and was saddened and shocked to read of his passing in our class newsletter. He and I, along with the Byrd brothers, had many a lively discussion on politics, economics, and life in general at Cowles hall. I'll always remember his hospitality, and lively intellect with fondness and will miss seeing him at Grinnell. May he be at peace.

Just returned form a fishing trip to Canada and was shocked to learn of John's passing. John was a good friend and we would get together when he passed through St Louis or when I passed through Iowa or Grinnell.
We shared many a pizza over conversations
on stocks, the stock market, and political views. I will miss John and his views on the above. May he rest in peace.

Miriam - Very sorry to read of John's passing. He was a loyal friend, invited me to speak at Kiwanis when he was club president, and liked to share our common interest in sports. I will miss seeing him in Grinnell. Dave Adkins

Attending Kiwanis luncheons with my dad, John was always the first to greet us and usually with a barrage or opinions on a wide range of topics. And while he was insistent on understanding, he was never a pest. His depth and breadth of knowledge was remarkable. I really liked him.

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. Many good memories from Grinnell and Iowa City days: summer saturday night trips to the super modified races in Knoxville, driving the county roads sweeping up corn from the trucks to sell, Ohio State football fanaticism, and in more recent years his passion for discovering the local library in all of his travels. And always, always, robust political discussions for hours and hours. John, you will be missed but never forgotten.

John has been a good friend since 1989, when I moved to Knoxville, Iowa, to lead the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum project. He has been a loyal member of the non-profit museum foundation, and a great supporter over all those years. John was passionate about Knoxville Raceway & the National Sprint Car Museum, Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and the Ohio State University Buckeyes football program. He believed everyone should read the biographies of Ohio State's

Here's to John, an indelible memory from my past, my companion on many a snowy afternoon as we walked home from school. Peace be with you, friend.
