Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary

Once you walk through the front doors of Cottonwood Mortuary, you become immersed in the history of the Holladay area. Take time and stroll through the Holladay Wall of History and you will know that this mortuary is unlike any other. Cottonwood Mortuary is a part of its community. It embraces and proudly displays the history of the area. We extend our commitment to not just the memories of our families, but to the memories of our community. Framed historic photographs tell the story of the Holladay area. From schools, homes, churches, businesses, social events, and people, the memories of our community are cherished and preserved. We, also, honor and recognize the sacrifice made by our native sons and daughters who fought for our country. A dignified memorial containing the portraits of all WWII veterans from our community hangs in remembrance. As you gaze on the historic pictures and documents of Holladay hanging on our walls, take notice of the delicate window etchings of trees, the representations of life.

Past the Wall of History, look up and you will see an incredible hand-painted blue sky on our ceiling. Turn towards the front of the building and you will see through the windows the majestic Mount Olympus peak. Look above the front doors and gaze on the doves that are etched in the glass and are captured in flight rising across and above Mt. Olympus. The image of Mt. Olympus is carried through to the chapel. The extravagant stained-glass window, which lights from behind, centers the room and mirrors the might of Mt. Olympus. Stalks of wheat; violet, red, yellow flowers; white doves; and the myriad of greens of the mountain light up, and you will want to simply sit, rest, and look upon the glass artistry.

Inside the viewing room, an oasis of peace and reverence has been created. The ceilings are hand-painted with a blue sky and misty, white clouds. This theme continues down the front wall, where a warming sunset has been painted. The soft hues of orange, yellow, and red, accentuated by three sculpted doves taking flight, create a magical aura. Attention to detail is what sets us apart. The painting is beautiful, but it comes to vibrant life when the soft multi-colored lights and tinted glass lamps are glowing.

Towards the back of the mortuary, a spiral series of rising doves soars towards the open sky and clouds of the painted raised ceiling. Walk down the stairs, to our counseling offices and you will see a cozy green haven that gives comfort and solace for families. Boulders, trees, grass, and flowers, create an area that can whisk you away from the business of life. Take time and sit on the boulders, breathe in the cool air from the shading trees, feel the crisp grass, and relax.

Throughout the halls of the building, hanging on the walls are paintings by local artists, which tell the story of life in the Holladay area and the valley beyond. Artists include: Shirley Bailey, Marjorie J. Holt, Wilna Holt, Paul James, Jerry North, Helen Paul, Ian Ramsay, Al Rounds, and Diana Webb.
