Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home


Betty Jane Carpenter, 92, of Fairmont passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 a Pleasant Acres Christian Haven. She was born in Marion County on September 20, 1922 a daughter of the late Glen Wilt and Anna Lula Hall Wilt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Carpenter, Sr. on September 21, 1988.
She worked for City National and Lowndes Banks. She retired with 20 years of service for Nationwide Insurance Company where she was the secretary for the Regional Manager in Bridgeport.
She was a loyal member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. In her younger years she played softball with her company teams. Betty was a talented bowler in many leagues at Fairmont Bowling Center. She was President and held many offices with the Fairmont Bowlers Association.
She is survived by her two sons Paul "Ed" Carpenter and his wife Eleanor of Florida and Terry Carpenter and his wife Rose of Fairmont; a cousin who she raised as her daughter Ruth Wilt; four grandchildren Michael Carpenter; Pamela "Pam" Carpenter, Stephen Carpenter and his wife Ashley and Priscilla McClain and her husband Darin; three great grandchildren Shelby Carpenter, Ryan Carpenter, and Tyler Carpenter, and several very special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Betty was preceded in death by two brothers Lawrence Wilt and James Wilt; one cousin who she raised as her daughter Jenny and one grandson Ronnie Carpenter.
Friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street on Tuesday from 2 – 8 p.m.
The Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Evangelist Brent Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
