NORFOLK, VIRGINIA; Marie "Scootie"Mahone Finch Kipper, 89, of the 100 block of Beverly Avenue, went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2009. She was a Norfolk native and lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Harry Bridgers and Mary Elizabeth Mahone Finch and was preceded in death by her husband, James Raymond "Ray" Kipper, to whom she was married for 65 years. She graduated from Maury High School in 1938 and was a post graduate of Preston School of Dancing. She was a member of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She made her debut at the Norfolk German Club in 1938. She was a Goldstar ballroom dancer and danced for over 80 years. She was retired from Marsh & McClennan Insurance Company.
Mrs. Kipper was the great-grandaugher of Confederate General William Mahone, who led the Battle of the Crater in Petersburg, who later became a Virginia Senator and built the first railroad in Virginia.
She is survived by her children; James Raymond Kipper, Jr. of Virginia Beach and Carol Sydney Kipper Fuller of Manakin Sabot, Virginia, Three grandchildren; James Raymond Kipper, III and his wife Maria of Virginia Beach, Cynthia Leighton Kipper of Virginia Beach and Gregory Keith Fuller and his wife Julie of Tulsa, OK., and Eight great-grandchildren; Skyler, Stormie, Tucker, Brooklyn, Lily and Thunder Fuller and Michael and Thomas Kipper.
Funeral Services will be held at Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 1:00 P.M., by the Reverend Berkley Ford . Burial will be private.
The family will be at 2106 Whispering Sands Lane, Virginia Beach, VA. 23455
H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk chapel is handling the arrangements.
