Blanche Elizabeth Knight Ayers, age 94, passed away on November 16, 2009 at Adams Place. She was a native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a honorary member of their official board. Blanche graduated from Murfreesboro Central High School, attended State Teachers College and taught piano lessons for many years. She was a member and past president of the Woman’s Club, Frances Bohanon Music Club and First United Methodist Women’s Association. She was a member and served on the board of Oakland’s Historic Association and Charity Circle of Murfreesboro. She was a member of the Rutherford Hospital Auxiliary and MTMC Ambassadors. Blanche and her husband, Edwin, were big MTSU fans and rarely missed games as long as they were able to attend. Blanche loved to watch the Atlanta Braves. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.
Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; Hilda Claire Hooper Knight and Everette Donald Knight, husband, Edwin F. Ayers Sr., two brothers; James Melvin Knight and Hooper Knight. She is survived by her daughter; Eleanor Ayers (Charlie) Teasley, sons; Edwin F. (Marsha) Ayers Jr., Donald Knight (Dian) Ayers Sr., brother, Donald Knight, and grandchildren: George William (Cindy) Haynes III, Chadwick Ayers (Rachel) Haynes, Jessica Edwina Ayers, Donald Knight (Betsey) Ayers Jr., and Amy Elizabeth Ayers, great-grandchildren; Evelyn Claire Haynes, Carlie Faye Haynes, Hannah Grace Haynes, and Ellie Christian Haynes.
Memorials may be made to The First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. Heartfelt appreciation goes to those at Adams Place Assisted Living and Rehabilitation for their kindness, care and support over the last ten years.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home.
A chapel service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Jennings & Ayers Chapel with Rev. Michael O’Bannon, Rev. Jerry Mayo and Rev. Tommy Perkins officiating. Family will serve as active pallbearers. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
