Larry Max Wehunt
Our beloved Max lost his valiant 12-1/2 year battle with cancer on November 17, 2009. In his final hours, he was surrounded by loving family and friends as well as the compassionate staff at St. Joseph's Mercy Medical Center.
Max was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Jacob R. and Leah Burnett Wehunt on March 20, 1943.
Max is predeceased by his parents, his step-mother, Telka Wheatley Wehunt, his infant son, Gregory T. Wehunt, and his brothers, Perry and Bill Wehunt.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy, his brother, Rex and his wife Jerrie, his sister-in-law, Jan Bullard, dear friend Wanda Sallee, and his nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him unconditionally. Max also leaves behind many friends who were by his side until the end.
Max loved McClard's barbecue and felt that the restaurant was his second home. Joe and Delores McClard were his childhood friends and Max considered the McClard family and staff as his second family. Max ate at McClard's almost every day for many years and has the only reserved stool in the house, with his own name plate attached.
Max loved hanging out at Rocky's Corner. The owners, "day-crew" patrons and staff took special care of him. Their friendship and compassion brought much joy to Max in the last few years.
Max had several loves in his life, one being the Oaklawn Race Track live meet where the assistance of the Red Coats made it possible for he and his close friend, Mike Sexton, to enjoy his final race meet in 2009.
Max was employed by C. J. Horner Company for over 30 years, where he sold materials and supplies to building contractors. His specialty was selling Anderson Windows and Doors. Max's family is grateful to the Horner family and Max's co-workers for the unwavering support through the years.
Since boyhood, Max was a member of Harper's Deer Camp where he and his beagles were quite a team. Max would run the deer and the other members would shoot them. He spent every vacation at deer camp and continued to participate even when he wasn't able to hunt.
The family wishes to especially thank the following physicians and their staff for the excellent, compassionate care: Dr. P. K. Reddy, Dr. Nizar Suleman, Dr. John Brunner, Dr. James Y. Suen, Dr. M. Kota, Dr. James Gardner and the late Dr. George Queen.
With love and appreciation we will never forget the wonderful staff at St. Joseph's Mercy Medical Center and Quapaw Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. In honor of the medical community, a nursing scholarship has been established at National Park Community College in Max's memory. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please contribute to this scholarship fund at:

There will be no service at this time. Max's ashes will be interred in the columbarium at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, with a private memorial service at a later date.
