Christopher Hutchinson
Christopher West Hutchinson, 69, a long time resident of Annapolis, died March 26.
Born on September 27, 1942 in Sewickley, PA, he graduated from the Salisbury School in 1960 and the University of Virginia in 1964.
After graduating from college, Chris worked for Massachusetts Mutual and Crown Life for several years. In 1975, he founded Group Brokerage Services in Washington, DC. Two years later, he founded Self Funding Administrators Corporation, a regional Third Party Administrator, serving many clients in the mid-Atlantic region. He grew that business and served as President for 35 years.
Always a supporter of community service, Chris has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Annapolis and is a Past President of the Club. He is a Paul Harris Fellow. While not having served in the military, Chris was an avid supporter of the US Naval Academy, including active support of the USNA Athletic Association, and he was proud to be a member of the USNA Chapel brigade away ushers.
Chris enjoyed running, playing golf with his friends, international travel, and spending time on Nantucket with his family. A proud grandfather, he treasured time spent with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John.
A devoted husband, Chris is survived by his wife, Kate Hutchinson; son, Todd Hutchinson and wife Kim of Washington, DC; daughters, Christen Sweeney and husband Patrick of Chamonix, France, Laura Shine and husband Jay of Millsboro, DE; brother, George, of New York, NY; seven grandchildren, Shannon Kelly Sweeney, Patrick Joseph Sweeney III, Declan Strong Sweeney, Timothy Brennan Hutchinson, Margaret Grace Hutchinson, Hannah Marie Collins and Nathan John Shine.

I remember one Halloween when Chris came to the office dressed as a witch doctor. He had on a mask and a grass skirt. Nobody knew who he was. He jumped around the office in quite a frenzy and even picked-up his assistant at one point! We were in complete shock to find out it was Chris. Prior to that, his most extensive Halloween costume was a sweater (no tie!) with a sign reading "College Student" on his back. Chris provided us with some good laughs at SFA, but this was the best.

We have many good memories of Chris playing in our Spring Squash Classics, dinner together and sharing family similarities. Chris made a difference in my life that only a few fully appreciate. I will miss our conversations and his wisdom.
