Hudson Cindy Sue Derby Hudson of San Antonio, Texas, passed on from complications of terminal lung cancer at her residence on Wednesday, 2 May 2012 at 12:43 p.m. She was 56 years young. Cindy was one of four children born to Larry and Beverly Derby of Brownsville, Texas on 17 May 1955. A 1972 graduate of Brownsville High School, Cindy participated in cheerleading, student government, and met her future Husband William PC Hudson there. They fell in love and were married while Cindy was attending the University of Texas at Austin. 13 days after graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education, she gave birth to her first child, John Howland Pell Hudson 27 August 1977. Her love abounding, John was soon followed by another Brother, William PC Hudson JR, (Her Bubba) on 30 May 1979 and a Daughter, Vanessa Lynn Hudson, on 14 August 1980. All were born in San Antonio and raised in San Antonio. While Cindy was pregnant with her fourth and final child, Bubba succumbed to a terrible accident and died 23 April 1982. Cindy's strength ensured however, the birth of her final Son, Michael Roy Hoffman Hudson on 9 August 1982. Unfortunately, her marriage was not to endure and she was soon divorced. Her love for her children, her exceptional capacity for continuing education, and her desire to improve the lives of those around her built the foundation for her steadfast faith; and Cindy carried on. She continued to raise her children, work full time as an Elementary School Teacher, and even went back to school. In 1988, she graduated with a Master's of Public Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio. During this time, she was drawn to new ways of helping others and soon realized her potential as a health care professional. She studied hard, applied for, and was accepted into the Nursing program and the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio where she received a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing in 1992. Her compassion for caring and ability to teach others made her the ideal Nurse as she ran the full gambit of health care: from School Nurse at Robert E. Lee High School, Hospital Nurse, and Hospice Professional. In 2001, she graduated with a Jurist Doctorate from St. Mary's University and loved to relay to people that she was on the Dean's List at the same time her children had made it while they were in College. She worked as a Lawyer in San Antonio through her chemotherapy right until she could physically no longer work. She wished to share her eternal thanks to the San Antonio Bar Association for all their love, support, and fellowship while a practicing lawyer. Her Mother, Beverly Derby of Brownsville, TX; her Children John and Vanessa of San Antonio, TX; and her Son Michael of Savannah, GA survive Cindy. A viewing will be held on Friday, 4 May 2012 from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North and her funeral service will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, 5 May 2012 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. She will receive a final benediction and be interred at Mission Burial Park North Cemetery, 20900 IH-10W, San Antonio, Texas 78257. Her pallbearers will be Jefferson Moore, Mike Sawyer, Judge Jim Rausch, Joe Villarreal, John H.P. Hudson, Michael R. H. Hudson; honorary pallbearers Jimmie Cavender, John Longoria, Sr., and Jimmy Allison. A memorial fund will be established from her remaining treatment fund. Donations may be made to the Cindy Hudson benefit fund. You may contact a family member for more information. Every person with whom Cindy made contact had his or her lives made better by the innate ability of her to know exactly what a person needed. She was the light for so many living in a world of darkness; a beacon of the Lord to those that did not know Him, and she abided by His Will in everyone's interests before her own. A loving Mother, dedicated public servant, and compassionate friend, Cindy truly lived the words of II Timothy, 6-8 (KJV): "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. " She is loved and will be missed by all who have known her; she has finished her course.
