McKenna
Philip Joseph McKenna, 80, of Royersford, passed away peacefully from dementia related complications on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Seasons Hospice in Phoenixville Hospital, Phoenixville, PA. He was the husband of the late Mary Ann (Brazel) McKenna. Born September 15, 1931 in Bridgeport, PA, he was the son of the late Catherine (Quirk) McKenna and Joseph McKenna.
Phil (Cork) graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1949 and was a member of the Bridgeport High basketball team that came in second in the Class B state tournament in 1948. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving for 4 years from 1951 to 1955 on USS LST-32 and the USS Monterey (CVL-26) as a Quartermaster (QM3). He was employed as an office equipment salesman at Stack Sales Corporation and then as the mailroom manager at Eagles Eye Corporation. After his marriage to Mary Ann in 1960, he moved to Norristown were he resided for 48 years. While residing in Norristown, he was a member of St Patrick's Church which included time on the St. Patrick's Men's Club Council. He was a dedicated swimmer at the YMCA, loyal viewer of his son's and grandchildren's sporting events, enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra, vacationing at the New Jersey and Delaware shores, and a loving grandfather.
Phil is survived by four sons, Philip J. McKenna Jr. and wife Ellen of Collegeville, PA; Timothy E. McKenna and wife Maureen of Royersford, PA; Terrence J. McKenna and wife Judith of Collegeville, PA; and Ted D. McKenna and wife Jessica of Long Island City, NY. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Caroline, Sarah, Evan, Erin, Quinn, Jacob, Mary Pat, Luke and Erik. He was preceded in death by his oldest grandson, Conor.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at St. Patrick's Church, DeKalb and East Chestnut Street in Norristown. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in East Norriton. Relatives and friends may call from 9 to 9:45 AM Tuesday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Conor McKenna Foundation, 162 Buckwalter Road, Royersford, PA 19468, in memory of his grandson.
