Appreciating My Pet Even More Here and Now
I took him to the vet and found out he had struvites, which was quite easy to deal with through diet.
Unfortunately, we did discover during this diagnosis, that he also has a congenital kidney condition which will likely claim him earlier than later.
Today, no matter how much cat hair I pluck from my fleece nor how many additional pulls I find in my carpets, I appreciate his unique, curious, and lovable personality each and every day that much more.
He's come a long way from the terrorized cat taken off the streets. And, he's brought me along just as much in different ways. I'm thankful he's along for the ride with me. And, I'm still holding out hope it will be for many more years that I could have imagined half a year ago.

paul - you'll never know how much your post touched me! probly more so cuz you're a guy than anything else, to be truthful...it's all too rare to see loving tributes in this way. i truly, truly hope - 78 days after your post - that you and your cat are still hanging out, enjoying one another every day...
at my age [54] i've lost way too many pets and people - but every now and then, thru my depression and other disabilities, that sometimes make it so very hard for me to feel as tho i can properly take care of my cat companions ... all 8 of them! ... i'm reminded how blessed i am to have them all, no matter how maddening they can sometimes be. all too often they're all that keep me going, i think!

I hope your kitty is feeling better...my cat also suffered from struvites. He lived a long, happy life controlling it through diet.
I'm happy to report that his health continues to be quite good. As you said, diet is important and seems to keeping things in check, at least with respect to the struvites.
