NEWTON – James William Hutson, Sr., 89, of Newton passed away on August 3, 2011 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Born October 2, 1921 in Fayette County, PA he was a son of the late Glen and Mary Friedman Hutson. Mr. Hutson served in the U. S. Army and was retired from Jones & Laughlin. He was a quiet man who loved to fix things; enjoyed activities at Pinecrest and loved to travel. He was devoted to his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ingeborg Völzke Hutson; a daughter, Mary Lou Lucia; and a son, George Hutson who died in Vietnam in 1971; siblings, John Hutson, George Hutson, Mary Hutson and Alec Hutson.
He is survived by sons, Roger Hutson and his wife, Carol of Newton and James W. Hutson, Jr. and his wife, Margaret of Claremont; daughter, Patricia Slaby of Parma, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeannette Sirowski, Samantha Slaby, Michael Hutson, Kevin Hutson, Jennifer Hutson, Steven Hutson, Wesley Hutson, Summer Hutson and Ricky Colbert; eight great grandchildren; and sister Martha Scott of Lemont, PA.
Funeral services for Mr. Hutson will be held at Catawba Funerals & Cremation on Saturday, August 6th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Lutz Keller officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Post 48. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
