IRMO - Services for Joseph D. Ashley, Jr., 84, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2011 at Salem United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Mr. Ashley died Thursday, December 8, 2011. Born in Durham, N.C., he was a son of the late Joseph D. and Ruby Moore Ashley. He was a veteran of the US Navy and retired from the US Postal Service. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and the Seekers Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Doris Johnson Ashley; sons, Joseph Michael Ashley and Steven Daniel Ashley; daughter, Karen Ashley Rusher; grandchildren, David Richard Rusher and his wife, Victoria, Stephanie Ashley Rusher and Arianna Lovelace Ashley; and great-grandson, Jaden Steven Rusher, all of Columbia. He was predeceased by a brother, Leroy T. Ashley and sisters, Hilda Ashley Melvin and Shirley Ashley Lay.
