"Anybody who can inspire Carl Bernstein of the Washington Post must be a very special person! My condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Broder."

"I met David in the early part of 1994, while Congress was debating reform of the Communications Act. It was a chance meeting, one I shall never forget. He happened to notice the newsletter in my jacket pocket (it was printed on pink paper, so it was quite conspicuous), and asked me if I knew anything about the people behind it. When I told him that indeed I did -- that in fact I was the publication's senior editor -- he congratulated me on what he described as "outstanding coverage of the inner workings of Congress." I was totally amazed that he even knew about the publication -- and humbled by his praise. David's comments to me that day were enough to inspire me to keep on keeping on, even in the face of outrageous and unjustified criticism. I shall always be grateful for that chance encounter with this great journalist."

"David Broder was one of the finest human beings I've ever met. Since 1962 when I began my political career in Massachusetts, David has been a source of wisdom and inspiration to me. After I moved to Washington in 1969, his friendship, which I valued greatly, continued unabated. The last time we dined together was at the 2010 National Governors Conference in Boston (along with Dan Balz) and, as always, David talked about his love of politics with good humor and great insight. He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed by all of us who admired him so much."
