"Reading Ms. Lucille's obituary brought back memories of my education during the 60s. My parents, like Lucille, wanted the best education possible for me. I, like Ruby, was the only Black student in many of my classes. We had to endure a lot of unkind words. In some places today, the attitude of some has not changed. My educational experiences have made me determined to make sure that my son and my grandsons receive the best education possible. It has also embolden my resolve to do all I can to augment their education in whatever way I can. My salute to Lucille Bridges, a pioneer who gave her all to set a new educational precedent. True equality is yet to come. Until that time, we like Ruby, true admirers of Lucille Bridges, will hold our heads up high!"
