Robert C. Johnson, Sr., 91, of Wolcottville and formerly of Mongo, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at Miller’s Merry Manor, LaGrange. He was a graduate of Brighton High School and served our country in the US Navy overseas during World War II and was state side during the Korean War. He retired in 1975 from Atlantic-Richfield (Sinclair) in Gary, IN. He then moved to Mongo and was active in the Mongo and Wolcottville Lions Club. He was a member of the Mongo and Wolcottville United Methodist Churches. He was born on August 3, 1918 in Orland, Ind., to Lloyd and Leola (Clark) Johnson. On July 5, 1938 he married Ardelle (McKenzie) in Steuben County. She preceded him in death on August 10, 1985. He then married Marie (Kent) on August 29, 1989 in Mongo, IN. She preceded him in death on July 3, 2005. Surviving are a daughter and a son-in-law, Sharon and Ken Smith of Greenfield, Ind., a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. Johnson, Jr. and Ira Johnson of Howe, Ind., three step-sons, Daniel and Jean McCrea of Fort Wayne, Ind., Stephen and Judy Kent of Greensboro, N.C. and John and Sharon Kent of Tampa, Fla., eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren, one sister, Virginia Emerson of Merrillville, Ind., and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Don and Ray Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 West Michigan St., LaGrange, IN with the Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. Burial will take place Brighton Cemetery, Howe, IN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10th from 4-8pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be contributed to the LaGrange County Community Foundation.

Sharon, Ken, Bob, Ira and all-- I am sorry to hear of Uncle Bob's passing. I know that his life had been rough of late and I know there is solace in his freedom from suffering. I also know there is still a deep feeling of loss. My heart is with you.

Bob,Sharon,Ira and Ken, I felt sad when Ira told me of Bob's passing yesterday. I have such fond memories of all the time I was able to spend with your mom and dad. They were special people to me.
