Debbie, Karen, Tom and Julie......I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. Papa Bayer was such a part of my, Josie and Tony's childhood memories. Being Debbie's childhood BFF I was at the Bayer home as much as my own. When Papa and Mama Bayer yelled at the kids, we got yelled at too. I was not privileged to work at the Chuck Wagon, but I was raised there. Our summers at the restaurant with Grandpa and Grandma Bayer, Aunt Jeannie and Lizzy and Uncle Richard were so wonderful. Papa Bayer would feed us, give us supplies and give us money to hang out at the pond. In the winter it was the same thing, riding snowmobiles behind the restaurant and all over Dryden. Papa Bayer was my childhood. He was a special man and will be missed. Our prayers to the Bayer Family.

My deepest sympathy to all of you. John was a special man with a great smile and laugh. Wish we were all back in the old neighborhood like it used to be.
Please remember to cherish all the good times and don't dwell on the days when he was sick.
Love to you all,

We both came to love John as a brother when he joined his life with Sandra many years ago. Always such a warm and fun person to be around and such a great cook! I am thankful for the time they had together and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts are with the whole family and best wishes at this time of sorrow. Barb

Deb, Karen, and family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you all in your time of sorrow. I always had lots of respect for your Dad, and loved spending time at your home as a kid. Your loss will leave a whole in your heart, but the fond memories will soon begin to fill that void.

Your friend,

Like so many Dryden kids, I got my first real job with a real paycheck working at the Chuck Wagon. John's legacy lives on forever in our memories of those days. I am so sorry for your loss.

I remember John well, being from Dryden. My stepfather, Norm Muir, was his golf partner for several years. He was always a delight to be around. A great person.

I have many fond memories while working for John at the Chuck Wagon. I was 15 when I started busing tables. Some time after I started the busboys went on strike . We were making 75 cents/hr and after the strike it went up to $1.25.

Also, I washed dishes and peeled potatoes in the basement. All in all I spent many hours there and usually walked to work and back from town.

John always treated me with respect. He always had a lot of energy when things got hopping at the restaurant.

Karen, Tom and Julie,
I am so sorry to hear that your dad passed away. I thought I'd heard that he was sick, but I sent him some pictures and a note at New Years anyway. I look back at the time I worked for your dad and with all of you with a smile on my face. I respected him and loved him like a father. I am praying for you.
