Tribute & Message From The Family

David "Butch" McNeill, age 85 passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. He was born in Milwaukee on January 18, 1929, and was the son of Russell and Mamie (Palan) McNeill. He married Ruth Doyle on January 20, 1951, in Highland. He was a Chief Master Sergeant for the 115th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and the 128th Tactical Fighter Wing, Wisconsin Air National Guard, Truax Field in Madison from 1949 to 1985. He displayed a high degree of professionalism, which contributed greatly to the mission of the aircraft squadron. He was also a member of the Sun Prairie American Legion Post #333. He volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and within the Sun Prairie School District.
He was a tireless worker, whether farming or helping others. He enjoyed the outdoors and watching sports with his wife, Ruth, especially watching his grandchildren's sports. He was fiercely protective of his 10 children and instilled in them his compassion and discipline, which was passed onto the grandchildren. He was a fantastic dancer, ice skater, booming baritone singer and whistler. He impacted many lives and will be greatly missed!
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; his children, Sue (Lane) Slotten, Peg (Dan Pustina), Julie (Steve Baltzer), Scott (Trish), Steve (Teri), Tim, Tom (Kim), Tricia (Bill) Kern, Mike (Jeanne), son-in-law, Andy Fritsch; 19 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren (We love you Grandpa!) and a sister, Donna (Jim) Galligan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Fritsch and a brother, Paul McNeill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00pm noon, on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie, with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at The Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, 302 Columbus St., Sun Prairie. Burial will be held at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts School Endowment Fund or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Dad McNeill's passing takes my breath away!
Who else could have taught us to value the smell of hog barns in the spring??? or the dangers of swinging on the rope swing in the barn when we were supposed to be babysitting?
So many many happy hours spent on the McNeill farm will never be forgotten!

Ruth and family...Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sadness. Hold your memories close. Even though his time had come, it is hard to say goodbye.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I remember him well when we lived across the street. I thought of the time he was thrown from his horse and broke his leg. My father took him to the doctor.
