Tribute & Message From The Family

Charles Chaffin, age 64, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2014, in Georgetown, Texas.

A time of visitation, with family and friends, will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Ramsey Funeral Home, Georgetown.

Charlie was born on March 12, 1950 to parents, Edwin Lee and Luella (Fulcher) Chaffin in Big Spring, Texas. When Charlie came to Georgetown, he was employed as a ranch foreman where he enjoyed raising cattle, goats and horses. He also had a state and federal brucellosis testing accreditation. He has worked at the Austin Avenue Animal Hospital with Dr. John Tarlton for the past 25 years helping with both large and small animals.

Charlie loved his frequently extensive travels to Mexico and Central America. He also especially had an interest in the Big Bend area of Texas and attended the international meeting between the parks of Big Bend and Mexico at Terlingua and the Rio Grande Village with Dr. Tarlton years back. The great outdoors was Charlie's love, as was his hunting for and collecting Native American artifacts.

World and Texas history were his passions. He enjoyed helping educate children about history. He taught children to ride horses, work with cattle and hunt. He liked competing in golf tournaments with his friends, and also in Texas Hold'em tournaments. He was an avid University of Texas Longhorn fan as well. He cleverly created useful pieces for his friends' as he would tinker with carpentry. Even though most knew him as a quiet sort of fellow, he could tell some great stories! He will greatly be missed.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Lee Chaffin and Luella (Fulcher) Chaffin.

Charlie was a beloved brother to his sister, Carol Wright; sister, Debby Rowe; and brother, Steve Chaffin. Though not related, he was very special to the Tarlton family: Dr. John and Lana, Cole, Patrick, Renee, Tyler and Tucker who all considered Charlie a member of the family.

I was shocked when I asked at my last Vet visit , "where is Charlie" and was told the news. Charlie was a pillar at the Animal Hospital to me, my family and our pets. We always felt comfortable leaving them with Charlie to looking after them. You are sorely missed. I believe God holds a special place for those who love and care for his creatures. I was close to Dr. Johns today and saw a sign on the door. I drove by and found out Charlie had died. I have been going to Dr. John since 1991 or so. Charlie buried my best dog, "Red" for me when he died the day after Christmas in 94. I was in bad shape that day, Charlie was gracious. I will miss seeing him there. I know Dr. John and Jana miss him dearly. R.I.P. Charlie

It saddened me to hear of Charlie's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you in your time of great loss. Charlie was a quiet mild mannered person whom everyone loved and he was very good with the animals. The first time I took my dog to the vet it took a dump in the middle of the floor. Charlie grabbed a paper towel and cleaned it up like it was nothing but I was totally embarrassed at what my dog had done and Charlie said, hey it's okay. What a shinning jewel he was. Charlie, rest in peace. My weenie dog Avaya, and I will miss you dearly.

We loved visiting with Charlie and telling stories about places in Texas. He was a kind sole who truly loved animals. We will miss swapping stories. God has a new story teller!
