Tribute & Message From The Family

Dorothy Ann Hill, age 88, of Marquette, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the first day of spring, March 20, 2015. She was lovingly cared for by her daughter-in-law, Deirdre, for the last several years of her life and was able to remain in her own home. Dorothy was born to Duncan and Dorothy Cameron in Kalamazoo, Michigan on August 28, 1926. Dorothy married the love of her life, Edwin Gustav Hill in May of 1948. Together they raised five children and supported them in all of their endeavors. Dorothy was a kind, warm, caring woman who openly accepted everyone into her home, especially her children's friends and her dear relatives. She always loved to visit and chat. She lovingly cared for her grandchildren and until Alzheimer's set in, she cared for her great-grandchildren. Truly, they were her pride and joy. She was a force on the golf course, always knew how to enjoy life, cherish the little things, and the Irish in her enabled Dorothy to tell the best jokes. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Steven Hill (Sonia Wieczak) of Denver, CO, Cameron (Deirdre) Hill of MQT; her daughters, Laurie Leece of MQT, Melanie (Willie) Jones of O'Fallon, IL and Kathryn (Brent) Chapman of MQT; grandchildren, Elena Claros, Tara Hill (Ryan Campbell), Cameron C. Hill (and his mother Diane), William Jones, Dessa and Abbie Chapman; great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Sophia Claros, Ava Hill-Gillespie, Aurora and Ashton Campbell, and Delia Chapman-Perry; sister, Ruthie Warren of Trout Creek; brother Bruce (Katie) Cameron of Holt; several nieces, nephews and special cousin Patricia McGinty. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband "Eddie," her brother Joseph Cameron, (killed in the Battle of the Bulge), her brother Edward (Sonny) Cameron, and her sister Jean Lord. We the family, would like to thank the very special people at Marquette Adult Day Services, and those who helped care for our mother in her later years in her struggle with Alzheimer's disease. (Hildia Ball, you are truly one of God's angels.) She will be greatly missed, though remembered through friends, and relatives who loved and cared for her as her memory lives on. A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015 at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with Rev. Gregory Heikkala officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Dorothy, we love and miss you and you are now FREE! The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home is assisting the family where memories may be shared at
