Great man and coach as remember him. Watch him make 99 foul shots out of 100, that was over 40 years ago. He will surely be missed by me and many others. Coach go rest high on that mountain. God bless his family during their time of loss.

Aunt Hyatt,
I call you that, because my child-hood friend, David, called you that. David and I spent many afternoons after school or summer days together running the streets of Holden, and of course, your and Uncle Alton's house was one of our stops. He was a guiding light for us and many more young men. Always encouraging us to be better and try harder. The first person I knew that had a physical disability, but he made it invisible. He led by example and set an example at a very high standard and by that; many have lived a better life. He coached us kids in fast-pitch Softball, something in which he excelled. I did not get to play basketball for him as he had moved on from Holden by time I came of age. But I played for Holden against his teams, and it was always a physical battle against a fundamentally sound team. I had many wonderful experiences playing basketball and in some way, many were driven by a desire to impress him even though he was not my coach. After all those glory years he remained an influence in my life and it was a good day when I would have a chance to meet him and say hello. It was especially great if we had the time to reminisce as I was always amazed at his memory of sports events. I, along with many other people, are better for having known him. I know he is running wide open, unfettered, in the golden paths of heaven. May God bless you and comfort you in your loss. Sincerely, Alan R. Crnko

Very sad to hear of the loss of our D.S.H.S. Sports Legend & Teacher. Coach Alton Leggette was a mentor for me and always had something nice to say every day. He demanded excellence and discipline which a lot of young people today are craving. The world is better place because of our teacher and coach. Connie and I send our condolences to all the Leggette family. Thank You Coach For Being Who You Where. We really did appreciate it. God Bless!

A true Legend in Louisiana Basketball! We would always speak at the "Top 28" every year and was the kindest coach I have ever met! One of my proudest moments was when he told me our team was the most fundamental teams he had ever watched! Gonna be missed by many. To his family, it's hard to express what impact Coach Leggette had on the game in Louisiana!
